Introduction
Hi, I am Melanie! I am currently a 21-year-old college student at MSU, getting my degree in Visual Arts, my minor in Psychology, and my teaching certificate to become an art teacher. While I am unsure where I will end up in the long term, I love expanding my horizons and want to explore the world of animal care to see if that is where my passion lies. I have worked for an animal care business for about a year; however, I want to pursue my own business to create my own little community. I am also pursuing becoming a pet groomer to hopefully be able to service your babies for any and every service they may need. I believe that it is important for your pets to create a bond with those they are working with to make them as comfortable and happy as possible!
Ever since I was little, my house has been filled with various pets of different species and breeds. In total, my family has had 6 dogs, 5 cats, 3 ferrets, various rodents, and lizards. I love exotic pets too. I personally owned a hedgehog, a sugar glider, and a leopard gecko. I love learning about new species and their care, and so even if I am unfamiliar with your pet, I would love for you to teach me! As I have gotten older, I only have a small dog, Gigi, and two cats, Sera (family cat) and Mabel (my sister’s cat). Since things have slowed down, I have missed caring for all my pets, which is what drew me to animal care in the first place. I hope not only that I can create a bond with your pets but also that we can become friends and make a little community!
Personal Info
I have a lot of different hobbies and love to bounce around and learn new things. I obviously love art (hence the palette in Paws and Palette)! I enjoy most art forms, and everyone always asks me what my “thing” is, but I think some artists just are meant to move around and try to discover everything they can. While I consider myself a multimedia artist, some of my favorite media currently are oil paint, making prints, and drawing traditionally with things like pencils, markers, and pens. I think art is an amazing profession and hobby, as it is almost encouraged to try everything to expand your skills. To me, the idea of sticking with one job my whole life sounds limiting, as there is just so much to learn and create. While I enjoy fine art, I have also considered becoming an art therapist as I believe there is a strong connection between someone’s feelings and their creative expressions. Most of my art represents how I feel and my own opinions, and I believe it is a great tool for communicating things you do not know how to express. I hope that I can integrate some of my art with this community to connect with you guys on a more personal level!
I have always joked that I am the closest thing my dad has to a son because of my interests. I love anything that has to do with horror, and so in all my hobbies, I look for things that are either in the horror or thriller genres. I am a total nerd and have loved video games ever since I was a kid (probably some of my childhood favorites were games I should totally not have been playing)! I also love music. I mostly listen to pop punk, punk rock, and alternative pop. I try to go to as many concerts as I can, as I love supporting different artists, especially when they are smaller. The venues down the shore, like The Stone Pony in Asbury Park and Starland in Sayerville, are probably where you will find me during the summer.
I also like to read, even though I find that it can be hard to get into sometimes. I love both novels and manga and tend to stick with horror, thriller, and dystopian books, but I read most kinds of fiction. If anyone is a reader, I would love book recommendations or friends on Goodreads. If you want to follow me, I will link my Goodreads below. My favorite books at the moment are The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, The Haar by David Sodergren, and Verity by Colleen Hoover.
A little fun fact about me is that I would like to get tattoos that represent my favorite media. I believe that other people’s art contributed to who I am as a person and an artist, so getting tattoos that reflect that could tell people who I am. I think the idea of people actually being able to “judge a book by its cover” is a really interesting concept, and it makes your life and personality art.
Contact Me
Any issues or need to speak to me directly? Send me an email and I will get back to you!
I am working through the app “Walkies,” which has a chat feature in the app. You can change the settings to make it send emails or text message updates about my visit, which I would recommend. “Walkies“ also allows me to call you in case of an emergency. Otherwise, we will have to communicate through email.
Please go to the contact page to figure out how to work with me!
